MLUG joins with Birmingham City University to host next meeting
28 March 2016
Our next free Midlands LabVIEW User group will be on Monday 18th April from 1pm at Birmingham City University (BCU), hosted by the the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment. The group is now well into its second year and continues to attract a wide variety of professionals from the world of LabVIEW. Our guest speakers are Chris Roebuck from Delacor and Dawid Wozny from Argenta.
Chris Roebuck is no stranger to the world of LabVIEW and has been named a LabVIEW champion by National Instruments which demonstrates his commitment to this field. He is a highly experienced software professional who has held positions in a variety of business sectors including high volume manufacturing, telecommunications and also military aerospace. Chris has a strong understanding of test systems and in particular large enterprise grade test data management systems with significant experience in the design and implementation of automated RF and optoelectronic test and measurement solutions. Chris is a Certified LabVIEW Architect, Certified TestStand Architect and a Certified Professional Instructor so is well qualified to speak to the group!
His presentation will develop a session he will be delivering at NI Week. Chris identified that TestStand and LabVIEW integrate so well together that developers often find their projects tightly coupled; their LabVIEW control code can’t be run independently, and their TestStand sequences can’t be validated without hardware. It doesn’t have to be like that. Chris will demonstrate how the free Delacor Queued Message Handler helps developers create reusable, scalable LabVIEW modules that plug directly into TestStand but can just as easily be tested separately or deployed unchanged in stand-alone control applications.
Dawid Wozny is a Systems Developer and Implementer at Argenta and joined the team in early 2015. He completed his Masters in Electrical Engineering from the Blekinge Institute of Technology, Sweden in 2014 after gaining his Bachelors in Control Engineering. He also holds the Certified LabVIEW Architect (CLA) qualification, the highest level of LabVIEW certification. Dawid has two years’ experience working as a Machine Vision Engineer for OptiNav in Poland and prior to that worked on a number of different research projects in many fields.
With his presentation Dawid will be presenting a recent project that Argenta completed for Controlled Power Technologies (CPT) to develop and commission a fully automated dynamometer test rig for Integrated Starter Generators (ISG) used in hybrid vehicles. The role of Argenta within the project was to provide a software application to simulate the use during the lifetime of the component.
The User Group is delighted to be hosted by Birmingham City University and are looking forward to welcoming students from the Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications & Networks courses to develop their understanding of LabVIEW and its uses.
Anyone who either uses LabVIEW within their current role or works with LabVIEW would be sure to find this event useful and informative, as well as being a good opportunity to network. Those interested in attending this free event should contact Jenny Bragg via email (mlug@argentaconsult.com) or call Argenta’s office on 0121 318 6363 to register and be sent details of the Coding Challenge.
Our previous meetings have all been well received and importantly well attended with many regulars attending which is fantastic!
Once again we are welcoming speakers to talk about their latest innovative projects. There’s time to ask questions and enjoy networking with fellow practitioners. We have also introduced a new segment to the meeting– a ‘show and tell’ session with a coding challenge!
We’re meeting at:
