Simulation is a tool we use extensively in our work to help our customers and their businesses improve their profitability and effectiveness. The ability to model complex processes accurately is the key, not only to understanding the processes, but also in identifying where the improvements can be made.
The activity of gathering the data and defining the rules for a simulation model is extremely valuable in itself. The ability to provide a group of people from multiple disciplines with a common understanding of how a business operates means they will all be making decisions on the same basis saving time and budget spend. That understanding is improved by the ability to demonstrate the processes in operation graphically using the simulation model.
Once the base model has been validated it can then be used as the foundation for demonstrating and testing proposed changes to the processes without the need to make changes to the processes themselves. It also means that many more options can be tested than would otherwise be the case.
