In October 2014 Argenta made a key business decision – to invest in an internship programme for those having recently completed their undergraduate qualifications within the field of engineering. Following the receipt of a number of well qualified applicants, Argenta offered the position to Birmingham City University graduate Alim Khanan who started a 12 week programme in November 2014.
Alim graduated in the summer of 2014 with a Bachelors in Electronic Engineering and soon found himself working as a Calibration Engineer for a local company. However, after identifying that to successfully develop his career in LabVIEW he needed to be gaining more specific training and experience, he applied for the internship. Whilst Alim had taught himself the basic skills of LabVIEW, for him, one of the key attractions of the internship at Argenta was the opportunity for formal training and experience using LabVIEW.
Following the internship Alim was offered a full time position within Argenta as a System Developer working across many different projects using LabVIEW. He recently achieved the Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer (CLAD) qualification. This is the first of three steps on the National Instruments LabVIEW certification ladder. He acknowledged that ‘I have learnt a lot through the internship, not just about LabVIEW but about business in general, and this has enabled me to gain enough experience to sit my CLAD exam’.
Chris Woodhams, Operations Director, expressed his delight at the success of the first internship programme. He confirmed that ‘we are always on the lookout for new talent in order to develop and strengthen the team to help us continue to provide the highest standards for our clients. Through the internship programme we were able to give Alim training and development, but also give him an opportunity to see how Argenta works. Since commencing his full time position Alim has demonstrated that he is a very capable engineer and we look forward to continuing to support and develop his career with us’.
