Join us for an action packed Summer Midlands LabVIEW User Group

Our Summer Midlands LabVIEW User Group will be taking place on Monday 26th June 2017 with an earlier start time of 12.45. This time we will be hosted by the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) on behalf of National Instruments, after the success of our last meeting there we are looking forward to returning!

Argenta will be making changes to the agenda for this and future meetings in order to fit as much LabVIEW content in as possible! This will include development of the Coding Challenge segment and introducing a demonstration session for some meetings. This time round we are also delighted to say that we have four fantastic speakers; Steve Watts, Dave Barr, Ian Thompson and Toby Heagerty.

Steve Watts, who is a Software Designer at SSDC Ltd (not to mention the fact that he is also the owner!) and a Certified LabVIEW Architect. He is often on the line-ups at conferences and will be speaking at NI Week in Austin, Texas next month. In 2003 Steve and his colleague Jon Conway also released a book ‘A Software Engineering Approach to LabVIEW’ so it’s fair to say that he ‘knows his stuff’. Steve is also one of the organisers of the Central South LabVIEW User Group (CSLUG) and is looking forward to seeing how the Midlands ‘do LabVIEW’!

Steve will be delivering the presentation he will be presenting to the conference in Texas entitled ‘The SSDC Way: Desired Paths to a Simple Software Process’. This presentation will enable you to discover how the 30+ years' experience of each SSDC developer taught them how to brutally strip away all the hard bits and describe the EASIEST ways to run a software process. This may not be the most perfect method, but it is the simplest that ticks all the necessary boxes.

We are also delighted to confirm that Ian Thompson and Toby Heagerty will be presenting on behalf of the MTC. Ian will be talking about their work with the MyRIO controllers, which they used on a recent project with Rolls Royce where they monitored a component during transit. Whilst Toby will continue the theme of MyRIO but focusing on in-process monitoring on a machining application.

Last but not least, Dave Barr is a Systems Engineers at Product Technology Partners Ltd and is a Certified LabVIEW Architect and Certified TestStand Developer. He will be talking to the group about “Creating expandable and reconfigurable machine control applications”. This will focus on an architecture Dave has used on a few project machine control projects that utilities ethercat IO and a plugin architecture to create reconfigurable and expandable system at runtime.

All in all it’s shaping up to be a packed event with the additional elements of the coding challenge and a tour around the MTC site for those who haven’t been therefore before or fancy another visit!

The Coding Challenge is now available! Take a look, if you're unable to attend but still want a challenge please feel free to send us your solution!
