Midlands Aerospace Conference a success for sponsors Argenta

The recent conference in Wolverhampton championed the continuing success of the aerospace industry, underlying the importance of the sector for the Midlands. First time sponsors, Argenta, agreed with the 160 other delegates that the high profile speakers from leading aerospace manufacturers together with representation from SME’s in the supply chain made for an informative and thought-provoking event.

The keynote speakers from UTC Aerospace, Rolls Royce, Airbus and GKN Aerospace were united in presenting a rosy economic outlook for the industry with air travel growing and forecast for further growth. This will be fuelled by higher future demand from larger urban and middle class passengers. The estimates are for growth of 4.7% per year in passenger traffic until 2033, which will mean a requirement for over 31,000 new aircraft at a cost of an estimated £3.1 trillion. Airbus alone forecast their passenger and freight fleet will double in size from 18,500 aircraft today to over 37,000 planes in 2033. Currently Airbus has a 9 year backlog of orders in the pipeline.

“This good news from the industry leaders’ means that SME’s in the supply chain should also be able to achieve growth and increased employment in this highly skilled jobs market” commented Chris Woodhams, director of Argenta. “Our recent recruitment of new staff and our commitment to developing their technical and project management skills means we will be well placed to continue our strong links in the aerospace supply chain.”

The conference was a good mix of local aerospace cluster companies and included speakers representing smaller companies in the Midlands, facilitated by the Midlands Aerospace Alliance. Visitors were impressed by the insightful presentations, good networking opportunities and all enjoyed their day. Argenta plan to sponsor the event in 2016.
